Man Vs. Oven Clean - A Must Before the Holidays
Posted: November 4, 2013

On our continued Blog about Man vs. Kitchen appliances, We are getting the oven ready for the holiday cooking, We want our food cooked in a clean environment.

We found and tried these tips for cleaning every inch of the oven. From its door to the oven racks. It’s true, some ovens have a self-clean function. We advise you to never use that! We explain more about the self-cleaning oven function here.  It will require a lot of elbow grease, but it is worth it knowing you have a clean environment!

For the icky oven racks

Take them out and put them in the bathtub and use the following to get them shiny clean! This works great!!
Use a quarter to a half gallon of white vinegar, and a box of baking soda, mix these two until no longer fizzy in the bathtub then add hot water and fill to cover racks. Let soak for 1 hour and then you can just wipe them clean. That’s the easy part!

Inside of the oven

I used ammonia first, not thinking about the awful smell!

We’ve seen online that people try cleaning with some tricks using ammonia, which isn’t a great fix. First of all, it smells awful! second, it doesn’t really help to get the grease off the oven walls.

Instead, try this trick we found on the internet, and worked great for us!

Get some dryer sheets (you can get some from the dollar store ), soak them in water or a water and dish soap mixer, and place them all over the oven, letting them break down the bond. After about an hour, open the oven and spray the dryer sheets with some water, and the grease and icky stuck-on foods wipe right off!

After everything is out, spray a mixture of vinegar and water and wipe the oven out again, just so you won’t be using your oven with the dryer sheet chemicals in there.
The oven should be looking and smelling clean!

Just how does this work? The bond between grime, grease, and your oven walls, becomes weakened by the anti-static agents in dryer sheets.

Good luck and Happy Cleaning!

All of us here at 911 Service Today hope you have a wonderful safe Holidays
